Da Sa appointed Ajax Cape Town coach
Ajax Cape Town is proud to announce that Roger Da Sa has been appointed as the Head Coach of the club.
Ari Efstathiou, Executive Director at Ajax Cape Town said, “After a long deliberation and thorough analysis of all the applications that we have received, we believe that we have found the right man to steer us forward.
We have agreed terms with Roger and he has accepted the position of Head Coach at Ajax Cape Town until 2016.
Roger has proved himself as an astute coach with a good understanding of South African football, having coached at Bidvest Wits (twice), Santos and Orlando Pirates. He supports youth development, which is fundamental to Ajax Cape Town future plans and has during his time at Wits introduced many youth players who have succeeded internationally and in the PSL.
In the 2002/3 season Roger won the PSL Coach of the Year award while at the reins of Bidvest Wits.
He also coached at national level having assisted Carlos Quieroz as a Goalkeeper Coach.
Last season Roger took his team to three cup finals including the African Champions League Cup Final.
We have a young squad and Roger is a players’ coach having played the game at professional level with Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits. His experience as a player gives him a distinct advantage as a coach.
We welcome Roger to Ikamva and will give him all the support he needs.”
Roger Da Sa was born into a football family in Maputo, Mozambique, his father (a goalkeeper) played for Sporting Lisbon between 1956 and 1960.
Roger holds the distinction of having represented South Africa at three sporting codes; Basketball, Indoor Soccer and Football.
He captained both Sundowns and Swallows during his time as a player at both clubs. In 2010 Da Sa won the Nedbank Cup with Bidvest Wits.
