Usuthu strike late to down City
AmaZulu registered their second straight win in the Absa Premiership when they defeated Polokwane City 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday night.
Debutant Lucky Nguzana came off the bench to score the only goal of the match in added time.
Both sides tried long range efforts early in the game but Bongani Ndulula fired wide in the seventh minute while Sandile Sibande blasted his shot over the crossbar at the other end five minutes later.
The hosts then increased the tempo but Ndulula saw his header deflected over the crossbar in the 19th minute before Njabulo Manqana forced the goalkeeper to parry a dangerous cross in the 32nd minute.
City managed to create some chances before the break but Galabgwe Moyana fired just wide of the upright in the 39th minute, while Maxwell Molala shot straight at Philani Zikalala on the stroke of half time.
The second half started at a decent pace with Manqana squaring the ball across goal in the 49th minute, but Ayanda Dlamini was outpaced by the defender at the far post.
The visitors broke forward from the resulting corner and Thobani Mncwango was left free on the left side of the box, but his weak shot was saved by Zikalala at the near post.
From then it was all Usuthu as Goodman Dlamini volleyed wide from the left side of the box in the 60th minute, while John Arwuah directed his shot straight at the goalkeeper five minutes later.
In the 71st minute Goodman Dlamini saw his low shot saved by Modiri Marumo, while Moyana failed to hit the target at the other end four minutes later.
The pressure eventually paid off for the home side in the first minute of added time when Nguzana was left unmarked to fire a low volley past the diving goalkeeper to secure maximum points.
