Lekgwathi: message to Bafana

Bucs’ defender Lucky Lekgwathi insisted last night that the Bafana Bafana squad that left for the Republic of Congo, has enough experience to halt the hosts in Point Noire on Saturday.

The Bucs’ veteran defender who guided the Buccaneers to a successful trip to Brazzaville last year (in the Africa Champions League), said that there are a few things the players will have to do correctly, if they are to bag a positive result in Point Noire. 

“I think we have enough experience in the team to match Congo. They are leading the group and they know how important winning this match will be for them. “So, from our side, I think Thabo (Matlaba), Senzo (Meyiwa) and Oupa (Manyisa) will play a big role in that match – those guys have been to Congo and they know some of the players in that team,” says Lekgwathi. 

“It was good that the team left on Thursday; it can be difficult staying there for some time, as we had some experiences which were different to what we are used here; but the boys will have to take this game like a normal game. 

“There can be no pressure or intimidation; the crowd will be big, but we must take it as if we are playing a normal game – we just need to hurt them because we are faster than them going forward. 

“If they have to fight, they must fight – Congo is still in Africa so, it is not like we are going to Europe or anything like that; there we must play like we are playing here; we are just in a different place but it is still in Africa, so, we must fight; another thing is, the team leader on the day, must be very strong; this is a crucial match so, we will have to stay calm and fight hard,” concluded the Bucs’
