Dolly joins Sundowns

Ajax Cape Town can confirm that Keagan Dolly has signed a contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

There has been a lot of talk about his possible transfer to the “Brazilians” and today all parties agreed on terms and concluded the deal.

The 21 year old midfielder will see out the 2014/2015 season at Ajax Cape Town and is happy that finality has been reached : “I am ready for the challenge, since this is my third season for Ajax Cape Town. I would have been happy to stay at the club but this deal doesn’t only help me grow as a player, it also helps the club financially.”

“It was never my plan to move back to Johannesburg this soon, initially I wanted to stay in Cape Town and wait for an opportunity to move to Europe. Obviously things didn’t go as planned, but hopefully this is the start of something good and helps me grow as a player.”

Ajax Cape Town CEO , Ari Efstathiou , who was keen to keep Dolly at Ikamva, summed up the situation : “Dolly’s performances for the past few seasons have been such that it was a matter of time that the inevitable would happen.

Keagan’s approach regarding this matter was dealt by him in a very mature manner  and I would like to compliment him for this. He always communicated his intentions openly with the club and so did his football manager Paul Mitchell from Siyavuma Sports.”

Throughout the seasons, Dolly has forced his way onto the starting line-up sheet match after match and was rewarded for this by winning the ‘Young Player of the Season 2013/2014’ award.

Keagan Dolly: “My heart is still with Ajax Cape Town , I owe them a lot, especially my teammates who have always supported and encouraged me throughout the seasons. It’s because of the fans, my teammates and the technical staff at Ajax Cape Town that made me the player that I am today.”

“I would like to thank the supporters for always coming to our matches and standing by the team, no matter what.” Dolly adds.

“We, at Ajax Cape Town, admire Dolly for the way he has conducted himself as a young professional. He has dedicated himself to hard work , is always willing to go the extra mile when required to do so by the club and deserves all the accolades that he may receive throughout his career.

We hope that all our young players in our academy take a leaf out of Keagan’s book, because Dolly’s decision was always based on football first - monetary second.” said C.E.O. Ari Efstathiou.
