Podolski a wanted man

Tottenham are considering a move for Germany international Lukas Podolski after admitting defeat in the fight to keep Emmanuel Adebayor at White Hart Lane on a permanent basis.

Togo striker Adebayor has shone at Spurs since securing a season-long loan from Manchester City, where he had fallen so far out of favour that he was training with the reserves.

However, despite the fact he clearly has no future under Roberto Mancini, City still want to recoup as much of the £25million they paid Arsenal for the frontman in 2009.

The Metro reports that Spurs have baulked at the £17m asking price of the Premier League leaders, especially after £14m Craig Bellamy, another of the players to be marginalised by Mancini, was allowed to join Liverpool on a free.

Podolski is expected to command a similar fee to that asked for Adebayor, who also wants £140,000-a-week salary, yet comes with significantly less demands in the wages department.

Arsenal and Lazio, where Podolski's international team-mate Miroslav Klose is enjoying a stellar season, have also been linked with the Cologne forward, who has scored nine goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances term.
