Arshavin is a wanted man

Arsenal’s midfielder Andrey Arshavin is a wanted man  at German side Schalke and big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Arshavin has completed just one Barclays Premier League game for the Gunners this season and is growing increasingly out of favour with both boss Arsene Wenger and the club’s fans.

The Russian, 30, has warned he will ask for a move away from the Emirates Stadium if he’s continued to be ‘glued to the bench’, and Russian news agency Novosti report that Schalke have already told Arsenal of their interest.

Megabucks Anzhi, who boast the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Roberto Carlos in their squad, are also ready to move for Arshavin, who remains a star back home in Russia.

Arsenal would want to recoup as much of the money they laid out on Arshavin in 2009, but may struggle due to the player’s age and his own admission that he has failed to live up to his £15million price tag.

Arshavin voiced his frustration earlier this week, saying: ‘Right now I don’t think about changing clubs. If I will be benched for a very long time, then such an issue might be relevant.
I still want to play for 90 minutes, but now I am glued to the bench.’

But Arshavin has also suggested he might not be interested in a move to Anzhi.
He said: ‘I wouldn’t like to play for a Russian club other than Zenit [St Petersburg], and there were no contacts with Anzhi Makhachkala.’
