David Beckham won the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award.

Los Angeles Galaxy star David Beckham has won the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award.

Recovery from a torn Achilles tendon limited David Beckham to just seven MLS games in 2010. The midfielder, who turned 36 in May, went six months between competitive matches while rehabilitating from the injury.

“I’ve never been out of the game for such a long time,” Beckham said at the time. “It’s been a quick recovery and I’m happy with that. I thought I was ready for 90 minutes four months ago but after 10 minutes on the field, I felt like I was dying.”

This season, Beckham has been creative force for the MLS Cup finalists Galaxy, who finished the regular season with the second-highest point total (67) in league history, while winning their second consecutive Supporters Shield.

Beckham gained 15 assists, second in MLS, in 26 games, scored twice, and earned his second career All-Star selection.

In addition to winning Comeback Player of the Year, Beckham was named in the MLS Best XI this season.

Beckham edged Charlie Davies, with the former England star gaining 59.76 points of the weighted total between club, media and player votes, while the D.C United forward obtained 57.81 points. Chicago Fire striker Dominic Oduro rounded out the top three with 41.52 points.
