Duncan Crowie New Santos Coach

Head of youth and soccer legend, Duncan Crowie, has been tasked with temporarily taking charge of the struggling Cape Town based football club.

The announcement came from the club yesterday(Thursday 9 December) that Crowie will step into the coaching hot seat for the remainder of the year, consisting of Santos' two league fixtures against Amazulu and Jomo Cosmos respectively.

This announcement does not spell out the end for current head coach, Boebie Solomons, in fact Solomons was part of the decision to bring Crowie to the forefront, indicating the team needs rejuvenating.

"We reached a point where we had to do something," said Solomons. "We were not getting the results we needed. We were not getting any better. When the club reaches that stage, it needs to bring some freshness into the squad. It needs someone to bring a new voice and new energy."

Since Crowie has been involved in the youth development and aided in the building of the Santos squad through the promotion of youth, Solomons reiterates the importance of choosing Crowie as he understands the Santos system.

From Crowie's corner, the former star player has now been afforded the opportunity to display his coaching ability in top flight football.

"I am looking forward to the challenge," said Crowie. "I would like to see the team playing a more attacking brand of soccer and creating more scoring opportunities."

With the second half of the PSL campaign continuing for The People's Team mid February, the long break will provide Santos with adequate time to reflect on the opening 15 games and assess the situation going forward.

Santos face Amazulu at the Athlone Stadium next Friday, 16th December 2011, for a 18:00 kick-off.
