Development is the key for South Africa Soccer.

*Please note that this interview was taking in 2010 just after the World Cup. Now I'm proud to say that he's playing over season for Ajax Amsterdam

With five months after the World Cup just finished here in South Africa, now the story swifts to the youngsters that will present South Africa in the next World Cup. South Africa didn’t do well and many people were starting to talk about bring the youngster in the international level.

With the new coach in charge (Pitso Mosimane), many soccer loves will start to see more hope youngsters been part of the Bafana set up. One of the player who is been mention a lot is Thulani Serero. Already presented South Africa since the junior level, Thulani Serero looks to be the future for South African soccer.

I had a chance to sit down with him to see how he feels to be seeing as the next big soccer player in South Africa.

“Feels great to know that many people look at me as a future player and also youngsters also looking up to me it feels great.”

Thulani was part of the team that went to Brazil for training to prepare for the World Cup which was seen as the team that was going to represent South Africa during the world cup.

The team was cut down and Thulani unfortunately wasn’t part of it and many of the people were disappointed.

“It was great being part of the team that went to Brazil but was disappointed that I didn’t make it,” said Thulani Serero.

There is still a lot more World Cups to come and with age on his side it’s almost certain that he could be part of the team that will represent the nation in the next World Cup.

Thulani has great playing skills , he can almost play anywhere in the field of play but the position that his most used in is up front where he score goals most of the time.

He is one of the examples that it show developing young players at an early stage is very important for our sport to develop into world class standard.

“Our development is very good but there still a lot to be done and also we can improve on what we have. One learns a lot in the junior level and that can help to grow as a player”.

There has be an outcry that we need more young players in our national team and if this is done we will able to have more young players playing overseas. Many youngsters dream of playing in the “Big Leagues” and Thulani also sees himself up there.

“Playing overseas will be a great move” he said. (He went for trails schedule in Holland)

This is not impossible because great players like Lionel Messi started from an early age and now he’s one of the greatest players in the World.

Many of the young players give up before they have even their have try to live they dreams of becoming the next Benni McCarthy. I asked Thulani if he feels the pressure of becoming a leader.

“I’m not necessarily feeling the pressure, the team (Ajax Cape Town) I’m at now there is no pressures on me just go out there and play my football. Sometimes you don’t play well but at the end it’s all part of development “.

Thulani Serero is definitely a player to watch out for years to come because we never know maybe he could be the next great player to come out of South Africa.

Once again it’s clear that development plays a huge role in developing young sports leaders in which young kids could look up to.

Thulani Serero said an important thing that young kids fail to do and that is working hard.

“Working hard is the key to success,” said Thulani Serero
