FREEDMAN BLASTS SAFA OVER DIKGACOI

Crystal Palace coach Dougie Freedman has blasted the South African African Football Association (Safa) for playing Kagisho Dikgacoi in a “meaningless” friendly against Senegal.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder was replaced at halftime of the 0-0 draw against the Teranga Lions on February 29 with a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury that had kept him out earlier in the season.

And Freedman is furious that he was selected after a hectic period in which the player featured in 12 games in two months for The Eagles.

"KG flew halfway around the world after the West Ham game for a meaningless friendly,” Freedman fumed. “I'd like an explanation from the people who arranged it. And if they explain that then I'd like them to explain why they shouldn't pay his wages while he is out.

"They sit back in their offices and show no consideration to players that have just come out of a period where they have played 12 games in January and February."

Dikgacoi has become a key cog in the Palace midfield this season, but will miss a chunk of their push for the promotion play-offs in the remainder of the season.

The Eagles are currently seven points off sixth-place in the English Championship with 12 games remaining.
