Chiefs clinical in City win
Kaizer Chiefs produced a masterful performance at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening when they defeated Polokwane City 4-1. Bernard Parker scored a brace whilst Eric Mathoho and Kingston Nkhatha scored a goal each. Puleng Tloalane got City’s goal at the death.
The home side were quick out of the blocks early on and showed their intent of dominating when they opened their scoring in the fourth minute. Centre-back Mathoho received the ball from Parker just inside the box and perfectly placed his shot beyond City keeper Modiri Marumo.
There was a 45 minute break in play at the FNB Stadium due to the dangerous weather conditions. The referee brought a halt to the match in the 13th minute after persistent lightning above the stadium.
The break in play was more utilised by Chiefs as they recorded their second goal of the match in the 26th minute just 13 minutes after the restart. It was a comedy of errors at the back for the away side as centre-backs Thapelo Tshilo and Vukile Mngqibisa failed to communicate and applied a horrendous clearance which Nkhatha cut off and scored from close range for his third league goal of the season.
Chiefs applied more misery on Boebie Solomons’s charges when they made it 3-0 just inside 32 minutes. Left-winger George Lebese provided an inch perfect cross for Parker, who was on the edge of the box, and the striker unleashed a powerful diving header for his fifth league goal of the season.
Parker grabbed his brace in the 60th minute when he received the ball from Lebese again. The Bafana Bafana striker made space for himself just outside the box and let rip a powerful left footed shot which hit the inside roof of the net.
In the 83rd minute Josta Dladla was sent for an early shower when the referee gave him two yellow cards in a matter of seconds; the first was for a mistimed tackle and the second for continuous protestation.
Three minutes from time City scored their consolation goal when Tloalane beat the static Chiefs defence and netted from close range as Pieterse tried to close him down.
