Match background
-
SuperSport United and Moroka Swallows will renew their cup rivalry when
they meet in a Telkom Knockout quarterfinal at Lucas Moripe Stadium on
Saturday, 19 October 2013, kick-off at 15h00.
-
SuperSport moved into the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout thanks to
a 2-1 home win over Ajax Cape Town in the previous round, with a Khumalo strike
and an own goal from Hlatshwayo handing them the victory.
-
The Tshwane side has played 14 Telkom Knockout matches since the
tournament’s inception in 2006, recording six wins, three draws and five
defeats. They have won one of the three penalty shootouts they have been
involved in.
-
Matsatsantsa’s best showing in the Telkom Knockout era was reaching the
last four in 2012.

& 2005) but lost on both occasions.

Swallows moved into the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout thanks to a
1-0 home win over University of Pretoria in the previous round, with Manqele
netting the decisive goal.
-
The Soweto side has played 11 Telkom Knockout matches since the tournament’s
inception in 2006, recording four wins, two draws and five defeats. They have
lost both of the penalty shootouts they have been involved in.

quarterfinals, a feat they have now achieved four times (2006/07, 2008/09,
2011/12 & 2013/14).
-
In League Cup history, Swallows have twice reached the final (1986 &
1989), but ended as runners-up on both occasions.

previous cup matches.

The Birds have three wins compared to two for Matsatsantsa, and there
have been three draws. Each side has one penalty shootout win to their name.
-
The teams met in two cup matches just last season. Firstly, Swallows
beat United 2-1 in the final of the MTN8.
-
Later in the season, Matsatsantsa claimed revenge with a penalty
shootout win over their opponents in the first round of the Nedbank Cup. The
game ended goalless after extra time.

-
United have 20 wins compared to 17 for the Birds, while 17 matches have

Swallows down the years, suffering seven defeats in the process. The Tshwane
side has not won at home in this rivalry since the 2010/11 season.

mid-September that saw the Birds win 2-1 in Tshwane and end a run of 14 league
matches without a victory against Matsatsantsa.
