Pirates sign new striker

Orlando Pirates have announced the signing of Zambian attacker Augustine Kabaso Mulenga from Zanaco FC.

The 28-year-old frontman is expected to arrive in South Africa and link up with his new teammates next week as he was most recently with the Zambian national team at the ongoing 2018 Chan tournament in Morocco.

He was Chipolopolo's top goalscorer at the tournament with three goals, before they were knocked out of the quarter-final stages by Sudan on the weekend.

Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele said the club was delighted to have finally secured the services of Mulenga.

Mbele also thanked Zanaco for their professionalism during negotiations.
“We are delighted to have finally secured the services of Augustine. He is an accomplished player who has all the qualities to make an immediate impact at the club. I would like to thank Zanaco management for their professionalism during negotiations,” Mbele told the Pirates website.

Mulenga will play alongside countryman Justin Shonga, who joined the Sea Robbers at the start of the current campaign from Zambian outfit Nkwazi FC.

He joins a long list of Zambian players who previously graced the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the past.

The late Dennis Lota, Christopher Katongo, Collins Mbesuma and Isaac Chansa are among some of the players who made it big in the South African top flight.

Mulenga will be expected to hit the ground running as soon as he arrives next week, given that there's little time left and plenty of matches to play in the next four months.

Pirates are still in the race for the PSL title, and with the 2018 Nedbank Cup getting underway next week, Micho Sredojevic's men will also fancy their chances.
