AmaZulu fight back to beat United


AmaZulu came back from a goal down to register a 3-1 win over Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.

Kurt Lentjies fired the home side ahead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time but Goodman Dlamini restored parity early in the second half before a brace from Bongani Ndulula secured maximum points for Usuthu.

Craig Rosslee’s side fired the first shot of the match in the first half when Goodman Dlamini controlled the ball just outside the box before blasting his volley wide of the target.

The hosts had their first effort on goal in the 23rd minute after Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi was put through on the on the right, only to rush his low shot wide of the far post.

Ayanda Dlamini then saw his snapshot saved by Shu-aib Walters in the 35th minute, while Goodman Dlamini was also unable to beat the United goalkeeper two minutes later.
United broke the deadlock against the run of play in the first minute of added time when Lentjies converted successfully from the penalty spot after he had been brought down inside the penalty area by Marc Van Heerden.

The visitors were back on level terms in the 51st minute as Goodman Dlamini finished from close range following a good run and cross from Larry Horaeb.

Seven minutes later Bongolwethu Jayiya unleashed a powerful strike from just outside the box which flew just over the crossbar.

Usuthu went ahead in the 70th minute as Goodman Dlamini broke through on the right before squaring the ball for Ndulula to tap in.

Three minutes later Michael Morton fired a shot from a tight angle which was saved by Philani Zikalala after he was set up by Jayiya on the right side of the box.

However, it was Usuthu who made sure of the win in the 76th minute as Ndulula slipped past Robyn Johannes on the left side of the box before burying his low shot past Walters.

Usuthu move up to seventh place with 31 points from 23 matches, while United remain in 13th place with 23 points from 21 matches.
