Mathoho happy at Chiefs

Kaizer Chefs defender  Eric ‘Tower’ Mathoho expressed his delight after finishing his debut season in the gold and black as a league and cup double winner.

Mathoho made 30 appearances for Chiefs this season and was a pillar in what many described as the ‘best defense in the league’.

“The season exceeded my expectations. It is a feeling you can’t put into words when you win trophies with the Club you followed as a small boy…and I am sure I speak for all the guys in the team because we love the Club more than just wearing the jerseys.”

“Winning is a culture at Kaizer Chiefs but I never expected to win a double in my first season at Naturena.”

“I remember when we met in Potchefstroom for preseason all we were talking about was ‘Reclaiming the Glory!’ days and to bring silverware to the Club, the rest is history,”

Mathoho told kaizerchiefs.com There was a lot of hype around Mathoho’s move from Celtic to the Glamour Boys,

“There was a lot of talk in the media about where I was going to play my football but the hype never got to me. I knew there was one destination for me, Naturena.”

“My stay here has been awesome from day one. I am forever grateful to my previous Club for paving the move and the Club for believing in my talent.

“Winning the league has motivated us all and we can’t wait to meet for the new season. There will be new goals next season as we will also be playing in Africa. I am also hoping to feature more in the national team next season,” added Mathoho.

Mathoho is currently with Bafana Bafana in Cameroon for a crucial World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic and will be hoping to retain his place in the team after starting the friendly game against Lesotho last week alongside his former Club teammate, Thabo Nthethe.
