Mobara sign new deal with Ajax
Ajax Cape Town can confirm that talented young defender, Abbubaker Mobara, has signed a new deal, which will see him stay at the club until 2018.
Contrary to media reports over the past weeks, Ajax Cape
Town CEO, Ari Efstathiou announced that Mobara committed his allegiance to
Ajax.
“We offered him a substantial increase on his current
contract in May last year following a promising maiden season with Ajax.
Unfortunately due to circumstances not in the clubs control, he only accepted
our offer in December,” said Efstathiou.
Mobara was promoted into the PSL side in 2013 as one of the
most decorated youth players to ever play at Ikamva.
With Sportsman of the Year awards in the U13, 15 and 17 age
groups, he showed his potential and it’s a clear indication of his attitude
towards the game. Mobara went on to win the Urban Warrior award at U/17 level,
as well as four out of the five competitions his side took part in. U19 was a
major year for Mobara winning the Metropolitan Cup, while being named Player of
the Tournament, he was an instrumental part of the squad who won the 2013 Copa
Amsterdam Cup.
The 20-year-old also won the 2013/14 Rooky of the Year Award at the club’s PSL awards last
season and was nominated for the PSLYoung Player of the Year award, alongside
teammate Keagan Dolly.
Abbubaker Mobara: “For me this feels like the beginning of
my career. This is where I need to make the decision to become a better player
and also be a better person off the field. I am only thinking about Europe from
here and reaching a level that no one has reached before. Signing for Ajax is a
big step to where I want to go with my career. This is the best platform to go
to Europe and achieve what I hope to achieve in my career.”
The young defender has caps at U17, U18 and U20 levels for
South Africa and was called up into Shakes Mashaba’s Bafana squad who beat
Ivory Coast 2-0 in the 2014 Nelson Mandela Challenge.
We are proud to have a player of Abbubaker Mobara’s quality
at our club for such an extended period of time.
