Late Goal Salvages Point For Stars

Platinum Stars came from two goals behind to earn a share of the spoils after Absa Premiership match against Polokwane City finished 2-2 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

Polokwane City will feel extremely disappointed in the result after giving up a two goal advantage.

The result sees City up to 13th place in the league table on 16 points, four points outside of the relegation zone, but having played a game more than the three teams below them.

Stars, on the other hand, occupy seventh place on 23 points, four points adrift of second placed AmaZulu.

Polokwane started like a house on fire and opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute through Puleng Tlolane who provided a clinical finish when one-on-one with the goalkeeper, 1-0.

Polokwane continued to dominate after that and soon doubled their lead with Tlolane grabbing his second of the night in the 26th minute.

Essau Kanyenda slipped Tlolane through on goal and the Polokwane man showed real composure to chip the onrushing goalkeeper, 2-0.

Stunned by the start, Stars started to mount a comeback and managed to pull a goal back four minutes before the break through Robert Ng'ambi, 2-1.

The second 45 saw Stars continue to dominate the match, but the Polokwane City defence held firm, at least until six minutes from time.

Tintswalo Tshabalala was able to salvage a point for Stars in the 84th minute when he was quickest to react on a shot that was parried by the keeper, slotting the ball into an empty net, 2-2.
