PSL Chairman visits Polokwane City accident victims and families

Premier Soccer League Chairman, Dr. Irvin Khoza together with the management delegation, earlier today, offered hugs, words of encouragement and the league's sympathy to the Polokwane City FC players who survived last night’s tragic accident in Polokwane. 

The delegation which was welcomed by the Executive Mayor of Polokwane and the MEC for Sports visited the scene where the four players (Koketso Takalo, Robert Mphuti, Moeketsi Nthete and Silvester Mpaketsane) lost their lives, laid flowers and later proceeded to the hospital to visit the players who survived and were admitted at the Mankweng Hospital. 

Behind closed doors, the PSL delegation together with the Limpopo Government officials met and gave support to the hurting families gathered at the Mankweng Hospital and patients recovering in intensive care. 

The Chairman emerged before the TV cameras and kept his focus on the lives and dreams of the fallen and the survivors. 

"I come to them not so much as the Chairman of the league but as a father," Khoza told the delegation as well as the present media after his visits. "The reason stories like these have such an impact on us, is because we all understand what it feels like to have someone we love taken suddenly from us in a car accident. 

He continued: "I also had a chance to give the surviving players some words of hope but also to share some light heartedness as they remembered the wonderful lives that these young boys represented." "It's remarkable how some of these boys survived this accident," Dr. Khoza said. "You see these players at the club village who've come in and less than 24 hours ago, it wasn't certain if they'd make it. 

Suddenly they're alert and they're talking. It reminds us that even in the darkest of hours, life continues, and these players are strong and resilient.
