Stars back to winning form
Platinum Stars overcome AmaZulu and a torrential downpour to seal a 1-0 victory in their Absa Premiership clash at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace and move back into the top eight in Wednesday.
A second half penalty from Vuyo Meres sealed the deserved win for Dikwena, who leap-frog Usuthu into seventh and end a run of three straight defeats.
It was a game with few clear-cut chances, but what there were fell the way of the home side, who were good value for the three points.
Siphelele Mthembu headed dover the bar early on, before teeing up Robert Ng’ambi for a shot that was placed wide.
Vuyo Mere and Sibusiso Hadebe (twice) then had opportunities to score but spurned them and the teams went into the break at 0-0.
The rain led to a lengthy delay and it seemed at one point as though the game would not restart, but eventually it cleared and play could continue.
Stars finally got their goal on 55 minutes when Carlington Nyadombo was adjudged to have handballed in the area and skipper Mere stepped up to convert the spot-kick.
There was little in the way of goal-mouth action after that, but Stars continued to control the game and the half-chances fell their way, though they failed to convert any.
