UWC hammer Wits in Bellville

It was raining goals in Bellville as UWC put six goals past Wits in their opening game of the 2017 Varsity Football season on a crisp Thursday evening at the UWC Sports Stadium.

The duel between UWC and Wits at the Operation Room got off to a slow start as both teams were testing each other with UWC taking the lead via a penalty, which was converted by Ryan Steer to make the score 1-0. Both teams wasted numerous chances in the early stages.

The home team were dealt a huge blow as their hardworking midfielder Luke Vester was injured and had to be replaced by Aghmat Ceres. With half time lurking UWC took advantage of a defensive lapse by Wits as Chad Smith made it 2-0.

UWC could not have wished for a better start to the second half with Chad Smith grabbing his second of the night after a great pass from Aghmat Ceres to make the score 3-0. As the second half progressed both teams had a good go at each other with the game opening. With 10 minutes remaining UWC pushed for more goals as the Wits team looked tired.

In the final 10 minutes UWC were on top of the game and they managed to bag in three more goals to make the score 6-0.
