Celtic finish strong to beat Ajax

Goals from Mogogi Gabonamong and Lerato Lamola secured a crucial three points for Bloemfontein Celtic who beat Ajax Cape Town 2-1 in their Absa Premiership match in Bloemfontein.

Mosa Lebusa opened the scoring for the visitors early in the first half, but Celtic fought back brilliantly in the second half.

The result took Siwelele to fifth place on the table, highlighting the fantastic 2014 the club have enjoyed.

It did not take long at all for the first chance of the game when, after 11 minutes, Celtic’s Malawian striker Frank Mhango blasted his free kick effort over the bar following a foul on Davies Nkausu.

And just four minutes later Ajax Cape Town went ahead when Mosa Lebusa latched onto the end of a Cecil Lolo cross and head the ball into the net for the first goal of the night across all seven PSL games.

Then Ajax keeper Anssi Jaakkola reacted well to save from Limbikani Mzava in the 21st minute before Alfred Ndengane put his header over the bar from the resultant corner kick.

Just before half time Celtic got forward and had a good chance on goal when Limbikani Mzava’s cross found Nkausu, but his shot was skewed wide of goal.

Ten minutes after the half time break and Clayton Daniels saw his header hit the upright from Lyle Lakay’s supply.

But then Celtic struck twice in the space of a minute with goals from Mogogi Gabonamong and Lerato Lamola.

Gabonamong netted with his right foot following good work by Mhango before Lamola buried his opportunity from close range.

Tashreeq Morris came close to an equaliser for Ajax inside the final ten minutes when his attempt flew wide of the woodwork.

Celtic held on to make sure of the points and climb further up the Absa Premiership table.
