Polokwane Ease Relegation Woes

A brace from Essau Kanyenda saw Polokwane ease their relegation woes in the Absa Premiership when Rise and Shine beat MP Black Aces 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Kanyamazane Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The result sees up to 14th place with 27 points from 28 league games, three points ahead of the relegation zone while the loss for Aces sees them drop to sixth place on the table.

It was a miserable first half with both teams struggling to find any sort of rhythm. The opening half was characterised by poor passing and bad decision making in the final third.

The only shot on goal came from Kanyenda in the 14th minute and that proved to be the opening goal.

The second 45 was a much better affair and saw Aces quickly draw level thanks to a goal from Abia Nale five minutes after the restart.

Eight minutes later Polokwane were afforded the chance to take the lead for the second time when Bafana Nhlapo pulled down Kanyenda inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty.

Vukile Mngqibisa stepped up for Polokwane, but failed to convert from the spot as Nhalpo produced a fine save to deny him.

Four minutes later, however, and Polokwane did take the lead when Kanyenda grabbed his second of the afternoon with an expert finish after latching onto a through ball from Kabelo Lichaba, 2-1.

Aces tried to get back into the match after that, but were unable to break down the Polokwane defence as they held on for all three points.
