Swallows go fourth after City win

Moroka Swallows climbed to fourth place on the Absa Premiership log standings after they defeated Polokwane City 2-1 at the Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday night.

Edward Manqele and Rudi Isaacs were on the scoresheet for Swallows whilst Pulane Tlolane scored for the away side.

Swallows took the lead early on after some fine passing and finishing in one move.

Midfielder Lerato Chabangu dispossessed the ball in midfield off City, then laid a fantastic through ball for Manqele for his seventh league goal of the season, 1-0.

Manqele could have got his second goal of the match in the 30th minute when he did well to fend off his markers and then unleashed a powerful shot on the edge of the box which went just wide of goal.

Ten minutes later City could have added to their woes when defender Thapelo Tshilo nearly scored an own goal.

In his attempt to clear the ball the former Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns defender stuck out at a leg and wrong footed the keeper, luckily for the away side the ball just went over the bar.

On the hour mark, Esau Kanyenda fluffed a major opportunity for the men from Limpopo. Galabgwe Moyana sent in a quality cross which he tapped wide of the mark.

Swallows let their guard down and found themselves conceding a goal.

Tlolane found himself one-on-one with Etafia and rounded him before calmly taking his time to place the ball beyond Swallows defender Lary Cohen who was the last man on the line in the 70th minute, 1-1.

City’s joy was, however, shot lived when Maxwell Molala received his marching orders a minute after his side had levelled.

The home crowd at Dobsonville grew impatient with their side and but were smiling when the Birds scored the winner in the 86th minute of the match.

City failed to clear their lines from a Chabangu free-kick cross and the ball fell to Isaacs who beautifully curled the ball home, 2-1.
