McDonald’s South Africa Launches WorldCoaches Programme
McDonald’s South Africa,
today announced the launch of WorldCoaches programme in partnership with
Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (KNVB) – Royal Dutch Football Association
as an addition to the McDonald’s U/14 Schools League, which is run in
partnership with South African Schools Football Association (SASFA).
A total of 225 school
teachers/coaches and SASFA members across the nine provinces will be part of
the WorldCoaches programme, which involves a series of workshops and
on-the-pitch training sessions. The McDonald’s U/14 School League coaches will
benefit not only from the international coach’s key insights but also assist in
their own coaching development, further developing the grassroots football in
South Africa.
“We are very excited about
our new partnership with KNVB to bring WorldCoaches programme to South Africa.
The programme will bring even more energy and expertise to the successful
McDonald’s U/14 Schools League which sees over 54 400 young players annually
grow and learn through the game of football”, says Sechaba Motsieloa, Corporate
Affairs Director at McDonald’s South Africa.
The KNVB is known in the
Netherlands, as the largest sports organisation with more than 1.2 million
members and has since trained football coaches in developing countries across
the world.
“The partnership with
McDonald’s on educating and training school coaches in all South African
provinces enables the WorldCoaches programme to have even more impact on the
local communities in South Africa as part of our commitment when we joined the
South African Legacy programme in 2010”, says Johan van Geijn, Coordinator
International CSR Projects for KNVB WorldCoaches.
While it is the McDonald’s
U/14 Schools League coaches who benefit from this up-skilling programme,
ultimately the young football players will reap the rewards of this unique
WorldCoaches programme.
Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko
President of SASFA says, “SASFA is elated with the scheduled Schools Coaching
Clinics that KNVB will conduct during the McDonald’s tournament. This will
provide educators, both male and female, with the basic knowledge required for
coaching our youngsters. We are looking forward to building on the McDonald’s
U/14 Schools league programme in 2014”.
