Lekgwathi happy with weekend win

Lucky Lekgwathi has heaped praise on his teammates following their clinical display against Djabal FC over the weekend. The Orlando Pirates captain says that the team spirit displayed on Saturday evening should be carried out in all competitions the club is involved in this year.

Speaking to Orlandopiratesfc.com, the veteran defender praised Takesure Chinyama for his ruthlessness in front of goal.

“I would like to congratulate the guys for a job well done,” said Lekgwathi after the match. “We came into this match not knowing what to expect but what I am particularly pleased with, is the way we conducted ourselves throughout the ninety minutes.

“Once we were 2-0 up, instead of putting our foot off the pedal, we continued to apply pressure on our opposition. I’m particularly pleased with Takesure’s performance….even though he had already scored a hat-trick, he was still hungry for more goals.”

He added: “We go into the second leg with a nice five-goal cushion but having said that, the job is not yet done. We will go to Comoros with the same mentality to win….we cannot afford to underestimate our opponents – this is the Champions League, and anything can happen.

“I am happy to see everyone in the team treating that game like a cup final. I hope they can continue much in the same vein in the remaining matches,” he concluded.

Bucs will travel to the Comoros Islands for the second leg match which is scheduled for March 2.
